Where to Hire a Car Seat for Fraser Island
Eli Creek
Are you heading to Fraser Island with young children? Visit the world’s largest sand island and see over 40 freshwater lakes, the naturally formed Champagne Jacuzzi Pools, the S.S. Maheno Shipwreck and the infamous sand highway, 75 Mile Beach. You may even spot a dingo or two! There are a number of family-friendly day, overnight and tag-along tour options available and the memories of your adventures will last a lifetime.
As a general rule, most tour operators will not allow children under 4 years old on Fraser Island tours. This is mainly due to the naturally rugged terrain on the island which can make for a very bumpy ride and associated liability reasons. If you are heading to Fraser Island with young children, there are a number of family-friendly tours available. While some of these tours will provide complimentary child seats for use, many tour operators will require you to bring your own if needed.

Aussie Trax - Forward-facing and booster seats $20 a day with car hire.
Fraser Dingo 4x4 Hire - Complimentary booster seat with car hire.
Other Options:
If your chosen Fraser Island tour requires you to bring your own child seat and you aren’t driving to one of the departure cities to Fraser, don’t worry, you don’t need to bring it from home! There are local companies that allow you to hire a car seat without also hiring a car.
NOTE: Major car hire companies such as Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Thrifty, and Avis do not allow any of their vehicles or child car seats to visit Fraser Island.
Seega Rent a Car is a family-owned and operated business located on the Esplanade in Hervey Bay. Seega has both forward and rear-facing baby seats and booster seats available for hire.
$15 for 1 day
$12 per day for 2 or more days
Hervey Bay Rent a Car is another locally owned and operated business in Hervey Bay with all three types of child seats available. This company allows customers to pick up the car seat the night before their chosen tour and return it the day after, so you don’t need to cut your time on Fraser Island short!
$35 for 1 day
Cheaper multi-day hire rates available, please enquire at time of booking.
Please remember, it is each parent’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate baby or child is selected for their child’s age. Australian law requires all infants to use a rear-facing child restraint until 6 months of age. From age 6 months to 4 years all children must use a forward-facing 6-point harness child restraint and children over 4 years old must use a booster seat. For more information on child seat safety requirements, please visit Kid Safe.
